If former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra makes a formal bid for English Manchester City, he could be in control of the club before next season.
Manchester City has not been pleased with the proposals of former player Ray Ranson, and believe his plans are farfetched.
It is possible that further discussions may be held with a U.S.-based consortium that have been negotiating for a 29 percent stake held by chairman John Wardle and partner David Makin.
Club officials feel if the current period of due diligence ends in a positive way, then a deal could be finalised. They also think Thaksin will not hesitate with a formal offer, unlike Ranson.
Thaksin currently lives in London after being ousted from office in a military coup last year. He was first linked with the Premiership three years ago when he made a GBP 65 million bid to buy Liverpool, but was rejected.
Liverpool was condemned at the time by groups such as Amnesty International for negotiating with Thaksin due to his human rights record as prime minister.
