Gretna relegated to third division

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
If Scottish Gretna field a club, it will be a member of the Third Division next year.

The club was relegated because it could not guarantee it could make all its fixtures. It's a sudden downturn for Gretna, which rose rapidly through the Scottish ranks to the Premier League, but has fallen after financial support was cut.

The club struggled in the Premier League and then received a jolt when owner Brooks Mileson suffered a brain ailment and cut funding. The club went into administration and still could be wiped from existence pending a buyout.

Scottish Football League officials will not accept a club in administration. The SFL wants a takeover to be completed by early next week or applicants will be invited to replace Gretna.
