Millwall may get U.S. investment

A consortium from the U.S. is on the verge of sealing a deal to help revive English Millwall.

A group of unnamed investors, who are speculated to be involved with the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, would like to push an initial investment of GBP 5 million into Milwall.

Club chief executive Heather Rabbatts announced six-month losses of nearly GBP 3 this past week. She essentially said a cash infusion was needed if the League One club were to stay afloat.

The consortium is eager to invest in Milwall, but told the board they are not looking at a takeover for the present time.

"The board is in advanced stages of negotiations regarding significant additional funding for the company and the club," Rabbatts said. "This is vital to ensure continued trading."

Millwall is the latest English club to attract U.S. investment after Premier League clubs Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool all recently were taken over by U.S. businessmen.
