2010 World Cup organizing committee member Jimmy Mohlala was shot and killed Sunday by a masked person at his home in Mpumalanga. The same northeastern province is also the location of one of the stadiums that are to host the tournament, according to The Times.

Mohlala, age 44, was a former vice president of the South African FA, and revealed corruption within the game last year. Two unknown men waiting in an unmarked vehicle attacked Mohlala and also shot the foot of Mohlala's 19-year-old son before escaping the scene.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has stated that the World Cup will continue as planned. Sophisticated surveillance cameras, as well as an excess of 200,000 police officers will secure the competition. The crime rate in South Africa has already raised concerns over the level of security that the nation will be able to provide at this event. No alternative locations are being considered, despite the faulty guarantee of the safety of the officials, fans, and the clubs.
