FIFA's new general secretary comes over from its marketing & TV arm.

Jérôme Valcke has been appointed as the new FIFA general secretary. He was the director of FIFA's marketing & TV division. He replaces Urs Linsi, who resigned earlier this month.

"When Mr Valcke first came to FIFA, we had equity in the red," FIFA president Blatter said. "Four and a half years of intensive work late,r we now have a reserve of 752.0 million Swiss francs, and Mr. Valcke has proven that in the field of marketing, television and operations he is a dominant personality."

Valcke started with France's Canal+ station as a journalist in 1984. He was appointed assistant head of sport in 1991. In 1997, he went to Sport+ as the CEO.

For one year, he was the chief operating officer for SPORTFIVE.

Valcke was suspended as part of the MasterCard-Visa sponsorship legal fiasco that just recently was settled.

Markus Kattner, formerly FIFA's director of finance & controlling, has been appointed as deputy general secretary.
