UEFA supports finalized version of Independent Review
FIFA & UEFA - 24 October, 2006
UEFA reasserted its commitment to a finalized version of the Independent European Sport Review at a meeting of 49 European Sports Ministers in Moscow.
The final report includes additional account feedback received from key stakeholders, following the original launch of the Independent Review at the end of May.
"The work of the Independent Review is to be welcomed and will help football face the challenges ahead," UEFA president Lennart Johansson said. "The final report represents a significant step forward in the European dialogue on the future of sport and offers a real opportunity to gain proper recognition for the specificity of sport."
UEFA is convinced that work with certain political entities is the solution for solving some of sports difficulties, including dominance by a few wealthy clubs.
UEFA points to the European sports model as one in which a pyramid where the money from the elite trickles down to the grassroots at the bottom. UEFA believes the review can contribute to the future well-being of European sport and football in particular.
