Shelbourne given time to meet FIC requirements

Shelbourne, the 2006 Irish Champions, had its Premier Division licence revoked after an investigation into its finances by the First Instance Committee (FIC). The FA of Ireland (FAI) Club Licensing Appeals Committee has granted the club an extension until 31 March to comply with the conditions attached to its First Division licence.
The FIC requirements relate to the payment of debts and the provision of new accounts.
Debts owed to players amount to EUR 47,000 and the Revenue Commissioners are owed EUR 104,000.
The club's board of management put a statement on the club's official website, saying it "would like to thank the club licensing appeals body for the courtesy shown to us and look forward to fulfilling the amended conditions as laid down by their decision."
Shelbourne's management says it feels hopeful that it will be in a position to comply with the conditions attached to its First Division licence by the FIC.
"Hopefully we will achieve this [the conditions] by 31st March and then knuckle down for the rest of the season," said Joseph Casey, on behalf of the management board, on the web site.
Meanwhile, the club also faces a fine of up to EUR 5,000 after fans invaded the pitch at Tolka Park in celebration of a goal.
"It was very unfortunate to see so many people run onto the pitch at the end of the game last Friday [9 March]," Casey continued. "I agree that it was an explosion of emotion and, believe me, I would have loved to run out onto the pitch myself, but we can't allow this to happen again.
"The club will be fined anything up to EUR 5,000 for what happened, and if you take that this is nearly half of our gate receipts, it shows how very, very important it is that this does not happen again.
"As a club, we will be taking measures to try and curtail this behaviour, but I urge everyone to help us with this effort. It takes us a long time to earn EUR 5,000 but it can be taken away from us within seconds by the actions of a few."
