UEFA President Michel Platini and FIFAPro's Philippe Piat signed a memorandum of understanding that essentially says the two sides have a common interest in football.
Platini said he hoped the agreement, which covers areas such as transfers and players' rights, will pave the way to a similar accord with the powerful G14 clubs lobby that have gone to Europe's top courts to settle their grievances.
The gist of the treatise is that the two sides would cooperate and monitor football in Europe.
The memorandum covers key values among the two sides, including, UEFA.com reports, solidarity, equality and fraternity, the equitable redistribution of wealth, a commitment to democracy, the need to preserve the values of sport in the face of growing corporate control, and the protection and development of a large and healthy professional football sector in Europe.
They also pledge to end racism and doping in the sport. FIFPro Division Europe also asserts that selection by a national team should be a highlight of a player's career.
Platini said the two sides would seek further dialogue on issues.
