Richard Scudamore, the Premier League chief executive, opposes the expressed opinion of his chairman, Sir David Richards, regarding foreign players in England.
Richards' comments suggested that there were not enough English players on the national team, and that is the reason why England did not reach the 2008 European Championship.
Richards went on to remark that Steve McClaren, former boss of the English team, lost his job as a direct result of the same issue.
"I would absolutely refute that the Premier League cost Steve McClaren his job," Scudamore told the BBC.
The executive also suggested that there is a healthy number of quality English players in Manchester United and Chelsea clubs. He implied that the Premier League can't be held responsible for everything that goes wrong with every team in the League.
