Former France captain and manager Michel Platini plans to run for the UEFA presidency. The 49-year-old, said if he was elected he would put a smile back on the face of a sport he fears is becoming ruled by big business. “I want to prevent the most beautiful game from becoming only business, Platini commented in media. Platini also believes that the grassroots of the game must be protected, while the "win at all costs mentality" has to change. Franz Beckenbauer is prepared to run for the UEFA presidency if he gets support from the German FA (DFB) and leaders within European football's governing body. Both Platini and Beckenbauer indicated they will apply the post only if President Lennart Johansson is really going to retire.
