Burns report vote delayed until May

The Football Association executives will have two more months before they take the final vote on the Burns report.

The voting was scheduled to take place on March 13, but the board was concerned about its chances of getting approval from the 1,000-plus shareholders and will postpone the vote until May.

FA executives think that support for some of Burns proposals is 4-1, significantly higher than the 75 percent threshold needed, but most people believe that 3-1 is a difficult number to attain.

Burns proposal calls for an FA board composed of nine directors, three independent, three from the professional game and three from the amateur game.

FA chief executive, Brian Barwick, has been pushing a total of 11 directors, five professional-game members, five from the amateur game and one independent.

"Though I am confident the shareholders will reach the right decision, I'm told it's by no means certain," said Richard Caborn, sports minister. "This lengthy, drawn-out and cumbersome process highlights exactly why they need to reform."
