Platini will not meet with G14 on game's issues

UEFA president Michel Platini is holding strong that he will not negotiate directly with the G14 group of European power clubs that have opposed UEFA on many issues.

Platini does believe that players should be covered by an insurance of some sort while playing international matches, just as the G14 has pressed. But Platini will not meet directly with the G14 on that, or any other issue, saying he did not "recognize the mentioned association of clubs."

The player coverage issue was so contentious that Spanish Barcelona president Joan Laporta warned that clubs would fight back is their players are not covered while playing internationally.

So Platini is willing to seek a solution to that problem, but not willing to trade ideas with the G14 on other matters, suggesting the European Club Forum is where issues should be ironed out.

"I oppose this idea of players getting paid to play with the national teams," Platini said after a Uefa executive committee meeting in Istanbul. "But injuries after national games is an important issue. Clubs cannot pay for this."
